How I Practice
I work with couples, teens, and adult individuals who are undergoing life changes, experiencing dissatisfaction in their relationships, and navigating stresses related to achievement, productivity, or expectation. I specialize in clients who are of Asian descent by helping them make sense of familial, intergenerational, or cultural differences by tracing the lineage and impact of historical and generational trauma. This increased understanding supports a more empathetic and honest response to unchanging people or situations. My hope is that our work together will foster insight, clarity, and confidence to live authentically and form meaningful connections.
My approach is friendly, patient, and collaborative. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to feel seen, heard, and encouraged to explore the intricacies of your inner world while incorporating the context of greater society. To me, therapy is not about fixing people or solving problems, but about helping clients better understand themselves, their relationships, and the ways in which they interact with the world. My work with couples is informed by emotionally focused therapy (EFT) which teaches partners to identify negative cycles, voice underlying emotions, and find new ways of interacting that allow each member to feel more secure in the relationship. Throughout the course of therapy, I like to home in on a couples’ shared vision for their relationship as a guiding light for our work and reminder of why they want and value this partnership.
My therapeutic practice is rooted in narrative therapy and influenced by person-centered and structural family therapy perspectives. I apply a person-centered approach by recognizing that you are the expert of your own life and my role is to meet you exactly where you are. Structural family therapy maps out the bonds in your relationships and helps reveal dynamics that affect your interactions. These modalities add detail to your developing story. Narrative therapy believes that the stories we have and tell about ourselves impact the way we live our lives. These stories are shaped not only by personal experience but also by societal, cultural, and political forces. As your therapist, I will work alongside you to explore the intersection of all these facets and delve into the nuances of being a human in the world today. Together we will identify and challenge limiting narratives and make space for you to re-author your stories in ways that are more aligned with your values and aspirations.
