Couples/Family Therapy
Couples
It helps people involved in a romantic relationship gain insight into their relationship, resolve conflict, and improve relationship satisfaction utilizing a variety of therapeutic interventions. During treatment, the therapist will help the couple gain insight into the relational dynamics creating the problem and guide both partners to understand their roles in the dysfunctional interactions. This allows for greater insight on relationship issues and distress will help them change the way they perceive the relationship and each other.
Family
Our family affects who we are and who we become, for better and for worse. We learn our vocabulary, our habits, our customs and rituals, and how to view and observe the world around us. We also learn how to love and how to interact with others from these first important relationships. Family therapy or family counseling is a form of treatment that is designed to address specific issues affecting the health and functioning of a family. It can be used to help a family through a difficult period, a major transition, or mental or behavioral health problems in family members. Some topics within treatment include
-
Child and adolescent behavioral problems;
-
Grieving;
-
Depression and anxiety;
-
LGBTQ issues;
-
Domestic violence;
-
Infertility;
-
Marital conflicts;
-
Substance abuse (All Psychology Schools, 2017).
Great marriages aren’t about clear communication – they’re about small moments of attachment and intimacy.
